Get ready for logomania to come for your makeup bag: Louis Vuitton has entered the luxury beauty game with La Beauté Louis Vuitton, a collection of lipsticks, lip balms, and eyeshadows. Announced back in March, the collection is a first for the French fashion house and serves as a natural extension of its storied brand heritage.
Available August 29 in select Louis Vuitton stores and online, La Beauté references early Louis Vuitton vanity trunks, which were first released in the 1920s and feature special compartments for perfume and makeup. These archival pieces served as the inspiration for La Beauté, making a makeup collection organic to the brand’s roots.
To help with its first foray into makeup, La Beauté enlisted legendary makeup artist and longtime Louis Vuitton collaborator Pat McGrath as creative director. McGrath, who has designed runway looks for the fashion house for years, developed 55 shades of lipstick, 10 shades of lip balm, and 8 eyeshadow palettes (all packaged in the iconic LV monogram) which can be stored in the collection’s exclusive vanity trunk.
The LV Rouge lipstick comes in two finishes: 27 creamy satin shades and 28 velvet matte shades. For lighter coverage, the LV Baume is a sheer tinted lip balm offering a luminous and soft-focused finish. Both lip products are formulated with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and shea butter to provide extended longwear and moisture preservation.
McGrath’s influence is clear throughout the line, particularly in the LV Ombres eyeshadow palettes. Through her eponymous makeup line, McGrath has become known for her richly pigmented eyeshadows available in avant garde shades and finishes.
Available in 8 colorways, the LV Ombres bring the same color intensity with a range of glitter, matte, satin, metallic, and pearl finishes. Similar to the lip products, the eyeshadows feature skin care ingredients like squalane and camelina flower oil extract for optimal wear.
In an interview with Vogue, McGrath shared that La Beauté has been a long time coming. “People have been asking me for years, ‘When is makeup coming for Louis Vuitton?’ Now I can finally say it’s happening,” McGrath said. “I have been creating makeup looks for Louis Vuitton for many years. We have a shared vision of beauty and collaborate in a way that feels entirely natural, but every season, there is a surprise and a twist! La Beauté Louis Vuitton is a perfect extension of the journey we’ve been on together.”
