Months after the niche micro-scandal that was, “so, Kendall Jenner invented the white tank top?” (she wore a white tank top to a Knicks game and TikTokers lost their minds, dubbing it the “viral Kendall Jenner tank, leading to eye rolls from the rest of the internet), the supermodel was photographed on the set of a photoshoot in her latest off-duty uniform: A plain black camisole with spaghetti straps, a pair of low-rise, sand-colored trousers, black thong sandals, and a blue LA Dodgers baseball cap.
Simple enough—and yet. For those in the know, there’ve been a number of It girl tank top brands competing for cool girls’ attention over the past few years, a trend you might be able to trace back to this slinky Miu Miu top, which retails for $550, or this Saint Laurent tank, which will cost you a cool $690.
By comparison, the viral $75 Tank Air Studio Tank is a steal. It’s unclear if Jenner’s tank top is by the brand or not—that minimalist, low-profile appeal also makes it tricky to identify. Though, that’s good news for shoppers who love a good dupe. Another viral brand, Éterne, sells a similar silhouette in a variety of materails, from cotton ($75) to jersey ($90) to cashmere ($295). Of course, standbys, like Hanes, Old Navy, and H&M, offer more affordable options.
The LBT (little black tank) is as easy to style as the “viral Kendall Jenner tank top,” pairing as well with jeans or a pair of capri pants as the unfussy greige trousers Jenner herself wore. And I know what you’re thinking—fall is coming. Yes, the cooler season is right around the corner, but guess what? An LBT looks so good when layered over another tank (we’re doing that again!), or under an oversize cardigan. A truly comfy tank is as much a winter staple as it is a summer one, adding one more layer of warmth. So, when you think about it, $75 is a steal. Girl math.
