TGL, the tech-forward golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is set to return for its second season with a marquee matchup that promises to be explosive. On Sunday, December 28 at 3 p.m. ET, the opening match will feature the defending champion Atlanta Drive GC facing off against the New York Golf Club live on ABC.
Atlanta Drive clinched the inaugural SoFi Cup in March by defeating New York 2-0 in the best-of-three Finals Series. Both matches came down to the final hole. Atlanta pulled off a stunning comeback in Match 2, capped by Billy Horschel’s clutch 17-foot birdie putt, which sealed a 4-3 victory.
The championship banner will be raised at SoFi Center before the opening tee shot, and the SoFi Cup trophy, temporarily returned to its neutral blue color, will await its next owner in March 2026. Atlanta Drive enters Season 2 with its core lineup intact: Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover and Justin Thomas. New York Golf Club will counter again with a formidable roster featuring Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young.
Atlanta’s dominance last season was built on strategic excellence in the singles format and their masterful use of the “Hammer,” a game-changing tactical element unique to TGL. They led the league in singles holes won (20), points won in singles (31), and hammer throws (21), converting those into a league-best 30 points—more than double that of the next-best teams.

Neither Atlanta nor New York were among the favorites after the regular season, finishing third and fourth, respectively. However, they managed to defeat the best teams from the regular season, Los Angeles GC and The Bay GC, to face each other in the grand final.
The two teams that completed the six-team competition, Boston Common Golf and Jupiter Links Golf Club, led by McIlroy and Woods, respectively, were eliminated after the first round.
Season 2 promises to build on the momentum of TGL’s debut, blending traditional golf with cutting-edge technology and team-based competition. With the full match schedule set to be released in September, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how the teams adapt and evolve in this fast-paced format.
