Philippines‘ TBA Studios has unveiled the trailer for historical biopic Quezon, ahead of the film’s domestic theatrical release on October 15.
Starring Jericho Rosales (Siargao) as Manuel L. Quezon, the feature is part of TBA Studios’ “Bayaniverse” trilogy, a series of films based on Philippine history.
Other stars in the film include Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen, Benjamin Alves (Widows’ War), Mon Confiado (Exchange) and singer-actress Karylle.
The “Bayaniverse” includes Heneral Luna (2015), the Philippines’ highest-grossing historical movie of all time — as well as Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018). Jerrold Tarog directed both movies and returned to helm Quezon.
TBA Studios President and COO Daphne O. Chiu-Soon said that while Quezon is the conclusion to the film studio’s trilogy, Quezon is designed as a stand-alone film.
Following its premiere in the Philippines, Quezon will be released internationally at a later date.
The film was produced with the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and CreatePHFilms.
Quezon is a historical drama that focuses on Manuel L. Quezon years after the Philippine Revolution during the American occupation. When his fight for Philippine independence from the United States is put to the test, Quezon finds himself playing the brutal game of politics to outmaneuver his rivals — including Leonard Wood, Sergio Osmeña, and Joven Hernando.
In Quezon’s relentless quest for power, he eventually faces off with Emilio Aguinaldo in the 1935 Philippine presidential elections, using charm and favoritism as both weapons and currency, in a campaign that ultimately changes the face of Philippine politics and history.
Alves and Confiado have reprised their roles as young Manuel L. Quezon and Emilio Aguinaldo respectively, from the earlier films Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
Scottish actor Iain Glen plays the role of Leonard Wood, with Arron Villaflor playing the role of Joven Hernando, and Cris Villanueva playing the role of the older Joven Hernando.
The ensemble cast also includes Romnick Sarmenta as Sergio Osmeña, Karylle as Aurora Quezon, JC Santos as Manuel Roxas, Jake Macapagal as Manuel Nieto, alongside Bodjie Pascua, Angeli Bayani, Jojit Lorenzo, Joross Gamboa, Therese Malvar, Ana Abad Santos, Ketchup Eusebio, and Nico Locco.
“We are excited and proud to present Quezon to the big screen both in the Philippines and internationally soon,” said Chiu-Soon. “This project is a testament to our unwavering commitment to bringing the very best of Philippine cinema to the movie theaters. With this, Quezon is designed to be a compelling stand-alone cinematic experience for all audiences, whether they’ve seen the previous films or not.”
