The Los Angeles Dodgers saw Mookie Betts’ bat come to life at the perfect time on Sunday against the San Diego Padres.
Betts and the Dodgers coughed up a multi-run lead and were on the verge of dropping the series finale before Betts crushed a home run to help Los Angeles sweep San Diego.
“Finally, I did something good for the boys that’s with the bat,” Betts told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Betts has struggled for most of the season and hasn’t been shy about admitting as such. He would be the first one to tell you his performances haven’t been up to par, even admitting this season has been uncharted territory.
Ardaya pointed out Betts’ numbers since he “declared his season over,” and the numbers speak for themselves as 11-for-36 in eight games since making that statement. It seems as if he has put all of his frustration and anger behind him.
“Every at-bat is the same at this point,” Betts told Ardaya. “Just trying to do something productive. It definitely helps to not carry burdens from previous at-bats.”
His teammates are far from concerned about him.
“Mookie Betts is gonna be Mookie Betts, and no one here is worried about him,” Freddie Freeman told Ardaya.
As the race between the Dodgers and Padres stays tight heading into the final weeks of the regular season, Los Angeles will certainly need Betts to stay hot like this. If he does, the Dodgers could have an extra spark to claim the division title in the National League West.
