Sydney Sweeney’s new movie, “Americana,” flopped at the box office for its nationwide debut after her controversial American Eagle campaign ad.

The Tony Tost-directed crime thriller, which stars the “Euphoria” actress, Paul Walter Hauser and singer Halsey, bombed after debuting in 1,100 theaters across the country, per the Hollywood Reporter.

The film came in 16th place and garnered around $840,000, a per-theater average of $460.

Page Six has reached out to Sweeney’s rep for comment but did not immediately hear back.

In “Americana,” Sweeney, 27, plays Penny Jo Poplin, a waitress at the local diner who has dreams of becoming a country singer. The characters have a conflict while trying to gain possession of a rare Native American artifact.

Last week, Sweeney promoted her new project on social media.

“a few years ago I filmed this little movie with some friends and now you get to meet penny jo ♥,” she captioned an Instagram carousel of behind-the-scenes snaps from the film.

The film came in 16th place and garnered around $840,000, a per-theater average of $460.

However, her comments section was filled with several users who brought up the recent drama surrounding her ad and political ties.

“Thank you for posting, I forgot to unfollow before lol,” said one person.

“Bye Sydney! Being a registered Republican in 2024 is a choice,” added another.

“Perfect, won’t be watching it,” declared a third netizen.

After receiving backlash from fans and being mocked by celebrities such as Doja Cat and Lizzo, American Eagle released a statement, saying, “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
