Almost three months after finally getting its hands on the Champions League crown, Paris Saint-Germain will begin its hunt for a fifth straight Ligue 1 title away to Nantes on Sunday. Les Parisiens have been busy over the summer months and almost got their hands on more silverware in the United States, only to suffer disappointment against Chelsea.
The FIFA Club World Cup runner-up will nonetheless dust themselves down to start the trophy pursuit anew near France’s west coast, where Nantes hasn’t managed to defeat the capital giant since February 2022. That was the last time La Maison Jaune managed to get the better of PSG home or away, losing five of their seven encounters since then.
Antoine Kombouare managed to go undefeated in two meetings with Luis Enrique’s men last term, though it wasn’t enough to save his job after narrowly avoiding relegation. Former Dunkerque boss Luis Castro, who saw his side knocked out of last term’s Coupe de France semi-finals by none other than PSG, has since taken over as he looks to evolve the club’s prospects.
Gianluigi Donnarumma won’t be involved in Nantes after bidding farewell to PSG amid reports linking the Italy goalkeeper with a move to Manchester United or Manchester City. However, $50 million signing Lucas Chevalier should be ready to step into the No. 1 jersey, though it may be too soon to expect a debut for Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarnyi following his $75 million switch from Bournemouth.
