When it comes to the battle of the starting quarterback position on the New York Giants, there is no battle.

Just as Brian Daboll stated ahead of the Giants’ first training camp session, Russell Wilson is the starter. Two stellar showings from the rookie Jaxson Dart haven’t changed that.

Following Saturday night’s Giants win over the New York Jets, Daboll made it clear that the plan for Dart is concrete at this moment, no matter what happens in August.

The Giants didn’t break the bank on Russell Wilson, but they brought him on with intentions of the veteran starting throughout the entire 2025 NFL season. Of course, he came on before the team made the decision to trade back into the first round to acquire Dart.

Still, the Giants have plans to compete for a playoff spot this morning. Daboll feels more comfortable rolling with the guy who has been a full-time starter since 2012, rather than the young rookie out of Ole Miss.

Although Dart has been a standout through two weeks, Wilson has played decently through his first two games as well. Against the Buffalo Bills last week, Wilson completed six of his seven passes for 28 yards. He was in and out of the lineup.

Wilson landed limited action once again during the Week 2 battle against the New York Jets. The veteran threw just seven passes. He completed four of his attempts for 108 yards. Unfortunately, Wilson tossed his first interception of the preseason.

As for Dart, he completed 12 of his 19 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown last week against the Bills. Against the Jets, the rookie connected on 14 of his 16 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown. He also reached the endzone with a rushing score.

As tempting as it might be to try and roll Dart out early, the Giants have made it clear that Dart’s rookie season will be a year of learning while watching from the side. While Wilson will likely have a short leash throughout the year, the Giants hope that the veteran pans out and gives the team a much better look compared to last season, when they struggled with Daniel Jones and others under center.
