Heading into the 2025 season, the Dallas Cowboys offense is going to look a little different. Following a strong two weeks of camp, one member of the front office is feeling confident that they made the right decision by going after George Pickens.
Pickens’ talent on the field is undeniable. However, it’s his off-field issues that raise a cause for concern. He was constantly caught up in drama with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which ultimately led to them sending him to Dallas.
As he prepares for this fresh start, it seems as though the dynamic receiver is ready to turn a new leaf with the Cowboys. If he’s able to keep the focus on football, he very well could form one of the NFL‘s top duos on the outside with CeeDee Lamb.

Cowboys executive gives high praise to George Pickens
Ahead of the Cowboys returning to Dallas following training camp, head of player personnel Will McClay sat down for an interview with The Athletic. He touched on a range of topics, including the addition of Pickens.
When talking about the Cowboys’ newest receiver, he raved about his skill set and what he’ll provide to Dallas’ offense.
“A really unique individual,” McClay said, via The Athletic. “No. 1, from the standpoint that he loves football, loves his teammates, and a rare talent from a standpoint of being able to track a football and have the body control to make those contested catches. In the NFL, you got to win one-on-ones, you got to make those catches. He can make catches when he’s covered.”
While staying on the subject, McClay also peeled back the curtain on what led to the trade with the Steelers.
“We had a game plan going into it about wanting to address the position and adding some stuff there,” he continued. “Be it in free agency, be it through the draft, or after the draft. So, free agency didn’t happen, the draft didn’t follow the way it did, so we continued to work and make those connections and conversations throughout the process, you kind of felt things that could happen. So when that one came up, we just felt like it was the right move and the right investment for us.”

Going into a contract year, Pickens has a lot riding on how he looks in his first year in Dallas. If he’s able to prove he can be a valued piece while also avoiding off-field issues, it could drastically alter the course of his career.
