It’s a brutal time for some workers.

Companies are going “hardcore” in the current job market, with executives embracing AI and layoffs. Disillusioned employees who feel trapped have begun “quiet cracking.”

At the same time, companies are spending less on employee wellbeing than they were during the pandemic, so the burden is increasingly falling on employees to take care of themselves at work.

It’s no easy task, and there’s no one solution, but Frank Giampietro, EY Americas’ Chief Wellbeing Officer, recently shared three tips with Business Insider that could help.

His first piece of advice is to “control the controllables.”

“It’s really easy in an environment of uncertainty to spend a lot of time and energy thinking about things that are outside of their control, but that’s going to be a real detractor to your personal well-being,” Giampietro told Business Insider.

He also advised developing your marketability.

“Make sure you’re investing in your own development and growth,” he said. “Are you going to have a skill set that’s going to be enduring and that’s going to be valued as AI continues to play a stronger and stronger role in the workforce?”

His third piece of advice is to set boundaries and strive for some kind of work-life balance.

“It’s a tried and true, but be really clear about what you want out of your experience and set boundaries that allow you to be a great employee but also not be consumed by it,” he said. “Make sure that you are also able to do what’s important to you in the rest of your life outside of work.”
