On Saturday, the Washington Commanders made a small but positive step in the Terry McLaurin saga.
According to multiple reports, the veteran wide receiver will be taken off the NFL‘s PUP list. McLaurin is now eligible to begin practicing with the team.

McLaurin’s change in status comes just one day after the Commanders’ offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury opened up to the media about wanting to see McLaurin get back out on the field.
“I don’t know exactly how much you can get out of that,” Kingsbury said at his press conference on Friday, via Pro Football Talk. “I think we’re kind of at that point to where we need to start getting those guys, when they’re available, out there and jelling to see where we are as an offense.”
All offseason, McLaurin has been off the field for the Commanders. Although he’s under contract for another season, McLaurin wants to lock in a new deal, and it won’t come cheap for the Commanders. The veteran wide receiver wants to be among the top wideouts in the league when it comes to contracts.
So far, the Commanders haven’t been willing to meet that price. However, they don’t want to part ways with McLaurin and have made it very clear they want to keep him around long-term.
Without a deal in place, McLaurin has been around but he’s not practicing. Perhaps, coming off the PUP list is a sign that McLaurin will practice. As far as contract extensions go, it seems that’s still a major work in progress.
Since 2019, McLaurin has been a top contributor on offense for the Commanders. Coming out of Ohio State as a third-round draft selection, McLaurin garnered an important role in Washington right away.
During his rookie season, McLaurin caught 58 passes in 14 games for 919 yards and seven touchdowns. Since then, the Commanders’ wideout has cracked 1,000 yards in every season. With Jayden Daniels at quarterback last season, McLaurin caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards. He ended up scoring a career-high 13 touchdowns.
At this point, McLaurin has appeared in 97 games since the 2019 NFL season. He has produced 6,397 yards and 38 touchdowns. It’s clear he’s among the most consistent pass-catchers in the game. Now, he wants to be rewarded with top wideout money after an All-Pro performance last year.
