The Los Angeles Rams are hoping to see quarterback Matthew Stafford get back on the field in the near future.
Throughout the early stages of training camp, Stafford has been unable to practice. He has been dealing with a back injury that has kept him sidelined.
After going through a workout last weekend, the hope was that Stafford could get back on the practice field. That hasn’t been the case. Now, a new update has been given.
Sean McVay, the Rams’ head coach, spoke out with an update about Stafford.

While there are still reasons for optimism that Stafford will be able to get back to full health by Week 1, no one truly knows what to expect. McVay spoke out with a bluntly honest message about Stafford and shared that he’s planning to have another workout on Saturday.
“Hopefully it responds a little bit better, and then I’ll have more information for you guys then,” McVay said.
He was also questioned about whether Stafford’s back issue was causing more issues on the pain front or simply from a functionality perspective.
“I think probably a little bit of both,” he said. “We’re trying to get our hands around this as well, so I don’t really have much more information other than think we’re trying some different things that are hopefully going to be in alignment with getting him back out on the field.”
Obviously, that isn’t nearly the update that fans were hoping to hear. Basically, it sounds like Los Angeles doesn’t know when Stafford will be back under center.
Should he be forced to miss any sizable amount of time, the Rams would move forward with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter. Stetson Bennett would be the primary backup in that scenario.

Stafford is coming off of a 2024 season that saw him throw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 16 games, while also completing 65.8 percent of his pass attempts. He’s now 37 years old and age might be catching up to him a bit.
Hopefully, some good news will come out soon about Stafford’s status. That day is not now.
Expect to hear more updates about the veteran star quarterback’s status following his workout this weekend. With the season coming up quickly, concern is starting to grow in Los Angeles.
