NBC is getting in on the game of treachery, picking up a civilian version of Peacock’s The Traitors.

Alan Cumming is set to reprise his role as host and open the doors to the infamous castle in the Scottish Highlands to everyday people.

Production for the civilian version of The Traitors will begin in 2026.

The Traitors premiered on Peacock in 2023 with a mix of civilian and celebrity contestants, shifting to all celebrity competitors for its second season.

The Traitors is based on the Dutch series De Verraders, a game that splits its contestants into two groups: The Faithful and the Traitors. At the beginning of the season, host Alan Cumming picks the Traitors that will pit the Faithful against each other by murdering them one by one while trying to remain undercover. The Faithful attempt to uncover the Traitors in a roundtable where they vote each other out and banish them from the game. At the end of the game, if there are Traitors left in the game, they will split the money between them. If there are no Traitors left, the money is divided among the Faithful.

Host Alan Cumming won an Emmy for his work presenting the series in its second season, with the show also taking a trophy in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program. The fourth season of The Traitors premieres in 2026 on Peacock with Donna Kelce, Porsha Williams, Tara Lapinski, and Lisa Rinna, among the contestants. Peacock has already renewed the series for a fifth season.

The British version of the show on the BBC, which films at the same location as the U.S. version, has only had civilian contestants from the start. A celebrity version was ordered and will air sometime this fall on BBC One.

The Traitors is produced by Studio Lambert, part of All3 Media. Alan Cumming also serves as an executive producer along with Mike Cotton, Sam Rees-Jones, Rosie Franks, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert, and Tim Harcourt.
