Scottie Scheffler‘s schedule hasn’t included a PGA Tour fall tournament for the last couple of years. This trend is set to change this year, and the Ryder Cup has everything to do with it.
Speaking from Caves Valley Golf Club, venue of this week’s BMW Championship, Scheffler confirmed his intention to play the Procore Championship, the first stop of the FedEx Cup Fall.
“My plan as of now is to go play in Napa (where the Procore Championship is played),” he told the reporters. “Outside of some extenuating circumstances, yeah, I’ll probably be playing in Napa.”
The event at the Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa Valley will be played from September 11-14, halfway between the end of the PGA Tour regular season and the start of the Ryder Cup. According to Scheffler, it fits perfectly into the plan to rest while still staying competitive.
“I think when you look at the last Ryder Cup, I think that was maybe a bit too much time off for us,” he said. “It’s one of those deals, it’s tough. When you get to the end of the PGA Tour season, I think you’re a little bit tired. You look at a year like last year I had, when it came to the end of the season, I was pretty worn out. It took a lot out of me. It was important for me to rest.”
“I think now with the way the schedule is, I think there’s like four weeks after the TOUR Championship before the Ryder Cup, and that’s plenty of time to get rest while still staying competitive. It’s important for me to get out and get some competitive reps before the Ryder Cup. I felt like last time was maybe a bit too much time off.”

In all likelihood, Scheffler won’t be the only member of the American Ryder Cup team in Napa Valley. According to ESPN, captain Keegan Bradley expects to see most of his players there, though he clarified they aren’t required to attend.
Scheffler hasn’t played a fall tournament on the PGA Tour since 2022, back when the season ran from September through August.
Since then, his only appearances between the end of the TOUR Championship and the start of the next season have been his last two appearances in the unofficial Hero World Challenge (2023, 2024). Scheffler has won both times.
