Halle Berry cheekily addressed recent comments made by her ex-husband as she celebrated her birthday.
The Oscar-winning actress turned 59 on Thursday and posted a carousel of photos on Instagram of her island getaway surrounded by her children and boyfriend, musician Van Hunt.
However, the post’s caption said it all.
“Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering,” she wrote.
While a simple sentence, it spoke volumes as it came just days after her ex-husband, former MLB All-Star David Justice, spoke about their marriage in a recent interview on Matt Barnes’ “All the Smoke” podcast.
He revealed he left Berry because he didn’t feel like she was going to be a good wife and mother.
“My knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast,” he explained. “So, I’m looking at my mom, and I’m a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, traditional, you know?”
He didn’t stop there.
“Then I’m thinking, ‘Okay, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?’ At that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues.”
Justice and Berry tied the knot in 1993 and divorced in 1997.
He went on to say, the two could have made their relationship work if they had went to therapy.
Since their divorce, both have moved on and started families of their own.
Justice married Rebecca Villalobos in 2001 and the two have three children.
Berry has a daughter with former partner Gabriel Aubry and a son with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
