The southern fast food chain Bojangles will be expanding to the East Coast and returning to New York City for the first time in four decades with a new location in Brooklyn, the company announced Wednesday.
Bojangles will be opening 85 locations throughout New York and New Jersey over the next 10 years, with its first spot set to open in Brooklyn this winter, according to a news release.
“It’s a monumental moment, now that we’re entering the New York Metropolitan area again. The East Coast is craving the authentic, Southern charm that Bojangles delivers, and we’re excited to introduce locals to something new,” Jose Armario, CEO of Bojangles, said.
Ground has already broken on the impending restaurant site in the East Flatbush neighborhood, marking Bojangles’ return to the Big Apple after a brief stint in the city in the ’80s.
The southern-style chain partnered with restaurant owner and operator Habib Hashimi and Hashimi Holding Corporation to help develop the locations.
“Bojangles has always stood out to me – from its delicious chicken, biscuits and breakfast to its incredible franchisee support system,” Hashmi said.
“I couldn’t be more proud to lead Bojangles’ growth in New York City. Our team has extensive experience running quick-service concepts across New York and Connecticut, and I’m confident residents will fall in love with the Southern flavors, hospitality and convenience Bojangles has to offer.”
Last year, Bojangles also expanded in Los Angeles County, promising 30 locations over the following six years in its furthest departure from its southern base.
The all-day breakfast and fried chicken chain primarily sprawls across the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic region. It was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1977.
It currently holds more than 800 locations in 21 states with a legendary menu featuring its signature fried chicken, biscuits, and sweet tea.
Bojangles isn’t the first southern staple to expand up to the Big Apple.
Raising Cane’s opened its first New York location and global flagship in Times Square in June 2023.
Since then, it’s only expanded through the city with plans to open its eighth near Columbia University in Morningside Heights.
