‘America’s Trial: Torture and the 9/11 Case’ Optioned

EXCLUSIVE: Clockwork Films has optioned John Ryan’s recently published non-fiction book ‘America’s Trial: Torture and the 9/11 Case’ and plans to work it up as a drama series. John Ryan is a veteran legal affairs journalist and his new book was published by Skyhorse this week. It is an account of the legal cases following 9/11 and memoir of numerous reporting visits to Guantanamo Bay. Clockwork Films is developing it as a series under the working title Welcome to Camp Justice, a reference to the part of Guantanamo where terror suspects are tried. The plan is for the series to center on Ryan as narrator, an outsider who becomes embedded in the surreal world of Camp Justice. “This is the story of a justice system stuck in a loop,” Ryan said. “It’s about mostly good people trapped inside a broken process and what it does to everyone who tries to make it work. It’s also a story that has been almost entirely ignored, despite its historic, tragic and at times outrageous nature.”

Prime Video Germany Remaking Mexican Drama

El Juego de Las LLaves, the Mexican drama series, is being remade in Germany for Prime Video. The Game of Keys (working title) will launch across Prime Video’s international footprint in the second half of 2026. Fremantle’s UFA Fiction, which makes Maxton Hall: The World Between Us, is producing the show, which went into production on June 18. The eight-part show stars Paula Kalenberg, Fridolin Sandmeyer, Salka Weber, Martin Bruchmann, Mona Pirzad, Pascal Houdus, Eric Cordes and Lilja van der Zwaag. The story centers around a night where Samu (Cordes) and his girlfriend Siena (ven der Zwaag) return to his old friend group and challenge them to push their boundaries by throwing their keys in a bowl and randomly picking a set, with each chooser spending the night with the owner of the keys. Ulrike Leibfried and Sinah Swyter are exec producers, with Vivien Hoppe and Antonia Rothe-Liermann the head writers, with Ben Brooks, and Marlene Melchior also writing. Barbara Kronenberg and Sinje Köhler are directing, and Jan-Marcello Kahl and Jieun Yi led the camera work. The original series, El Juego de Las LLaves, was made for Prime Video out of Mexico and ran for three seasons.
