Police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman while she was jogging in Ventura.
On Aug. 11, the victim was near Saratoga Avenue and Thille Street between 9:30 pm – 10 p.m. when a male suspect suddenly called out to her.
She continued jogging away, but the man began following her before he suddenly grabbed her, pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. He then fled the area on foot.
The victim returned home and reported the assault to the police. She described the suspect as a tan-skinned man, who was around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slim build. He may have a stutter.
Detectives have been canvassing the neighborhood, speaking to residents, gathering surveillance video and searching for potential leads. The department has also increased patrols in the area, but the suspect remains at large.
Anyone with video from the area between Aug.11 at 9 p.m. and Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. is urged to upload the footage for detectives to review at www.venturapdca.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/thillepark.
“Our number one priority is the safety of our community,” said Ventura Police Chief David Dickey. “We are using every available resource to find the person responsible, and we encourage everyone to help by reporting anything suspicious and sharing any video footage that could assist in the investigation. We will continue to provide updates as the case progresses.”
When out in public, residents are advised to stay alert and aware of their surroundings. Whenever possible, travel with a friend or in groups and let someone know your route and expected return time.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Detective Alina Davis at 805-339-4408.
