An injury to Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya has opened the door for one of baseball’s top prospects.

According to ESPN insider Kiley McDaniel, Chicago’s top prospect Owen Caissie is being promoted and will make his MLB debut Thursday afternoon.

Fittingly enough, Caissie is scheduled to make his MLB debut in his home country of Canada and against the team he grew up cheering for, the Toronto Blue Jays

Caissie was a likely candidate to be promoted, as he has been on a tear at Triple-A Iowa throughout the season.

After going hitless for the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday, Caissie still boasts a season slash line of .289/.389/.566, with 22 home runs, 26 doubles, 55 RBI and a .955 OPS.

His 22 homers rank third in the International League and his .955 OPS puts him fifth.

Caissie’s promotion comes on the heels of an extremely unfortunate and unlucky injury to catcher Miguel Amaya.

Amaya returned to the Cubs’ lineup Wednesday for the first time since May 24 after dealing with an oblique strain.

While trying to hustle out an infield single in the top of the seventh inning, Amaya awkwardly stepped on first base and went down in a heap.

According to manager Craig Counsell, X-rays have come back negative, but Amaya will be going on the injured list with a severe ankle sprain.

If he is indeed in the starting lineup, Caissie may feel some immediate pressure in his debut.

Not only will he be looking to help Chicago get its first series win in nearly two weeks, but he will be going up against future Hall of Fame pitcher Max Scherzer.

If his production in the minor leagues is an indication of anything, Caissie will be just fine in his big league debut.
