A live snake, a replica skeleton and chemistry equipment were among the stolen items recovered as three suspects, including a juvenile, were arrested in connection with the vandalism of a San Gabriel Valley high school, police said Tuesday.

The break-in took place around midnight on July 20 when the suspects entered Whittier High School through a window.

“Not only did the suspects cause approximately $10,000 worth of damages, but they also stole approximately $12,000 worth of items from multiple classrooms, including a live snake,” the Whittier Police Department stated in its post on Facebook.

The next day, a school resource officer helped police identify one of the suspects, a local juvenile, who was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and burglary.

“A search warrant was conducted at the juvenile’s residence, and all the stolen property was recovered, including: the live snake, a live fish, multiple pieces of chemistry equipment, a replica skeleton, etc.,” police said.

However, the two remaining suspects had eluded police until Monday, when detectives identified Whittier residents Jayden Martin, 19, and Alexiah Valles, 18.

Martin and Valles were also arrested without incident and booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and burglary, police said.
