HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy has officially opened its new home in the historic Merrimack Mill district on Wednesday.
Located at 3320 Triana Blvd. SW in an area known as “the Boulevard,” a ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon and other arts leaders to the renovated 24,534-square-foot facility.
In October 2024, Fantasy Playhouse purchased Merrimack Hall.
The new expanded space features a 278-seat accessible theatre, new classroom areas and upgraded backstage facilities, nearly doubling FPCTA’s usable area. The completed lower floor now houses dedicated classrooms, a loading dock, a shop and a new office wing.
“These enhanced facilities allow us to serve more than 20,000 patrons annually, host over 500 students each semester, and engage the nearly 200 volunteers who make our productions possible,” said CEO Karen Mockensturm. “It’s not just a move, it’s an investment in the creative future of North Alabama.”
The first public celebration in the new venue will be FPCTA’s annual fundraiser, Cocktails Under the Stars, on Aug. 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring live entertainment, local food and drinks, and tours of the facility.
