The Cleveland Browns have been dealing with injuries to most of the four quarterbacks engaged in a big battle for the starting position. Only Joe Flacco remains healthy, and his chances of being the starter are growing bigger.

Regarding the rest of the room, Kenny Pickett is still dealing with a hamstring issue, and now Shedeur Sanders was hit with an oblique injury following his solid preseason debut. Dillon Gabriel has also been dealing with a hamstring issue, but that issue might finally be healing fully.
Gabriel spoke to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson about where he stands with his recovery, and also provided the perfect response to the ongoing quarterback battle in Cleveland.
While Gabriel recently returned to 11-on-11 drills, there are rumblings that he will make his preseason debut this weekend. When asked about his recovery, Gabriel gave a simple response.

“I have no clue what’s gonna happen. I’m just right where my feet are,” Gabriel stated.
Though Gabriel’s responses can be seen as curt, he is also keeping a level head regarding the situation. The thing is that Gabriel can’t possibly know what is going to happen.
More news:Report: Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Suffers Concerning Injury
Instead of reading too much into the situation, he simply stated he is living in the moment. With Sanders potentially being out due to his oblique injury, this could be the chance for Gabriel to showcase his skills in preseason Week 2.
The Browns may have four quarterbacks angling for the starting position, but the team also needs a backup and emergency third quarterback. Head coach Kevin Stefanski might also take all four passers on the 53-man roster, which is generally unheard of.
Cleveland may have made a mistake taking both Gabriel in the third round and Sanders in the fourth round, but there could also be some genius in drafting two rookies with huge upside. Should Gabriel showcase elite skills in preseason, it could mean that the Browns have two quarterbacks who could develop well.
If that is the case, the Browns might then see if Gabriel or Sanders are good enough to bring in some draft capital. Or the team could trade Kenny Pickett, keeping both the rookies to develop even more through this and next season.
This is all just speculation, but indications seem to point to Sanders not suiting up and Gabriel taking the reins in Week 2 of preseason.
