Bella Hadid Has Confirmed the Sneakerina as the Shoe of the Summer

There’s no denying it now that it’s got Bella Hadid’s endorsement. The ballerina sneaker—or sneakerina, if you will—is the shoe of the summer. (And probably the fall.)

The trendy shoe style is exactly what it sounds like: half sneaker and half ballet flat, and it can be surprisingly versatile. There are some versions, like the chunky Ecco sneakerinas worn by Zendaya, that feature straps to mimic the laces of a ballerina point shoe. Others, like the Miu Miu gymnasium sneaker, take a more low-profile approach. Versions with straps that mimic the look of a Mary-Jane are also quite popular. On August 12, Hadid wore the Yancy sneakerina by Vivaia (which comes in at $159).

Bella Hadid kept the rest of her look equally simple. To match the white-and-gray color of the sneakerinas, she wore slightly oversized white jeans with a white henley bra top and a white denim jacket. To break up all the white-on-white, she also carried a brown leather handbag.

While the sneakerina trend has exploded in recent months, iterations of the hybrid shoe have actually been around for years. Loewe, for instance, debuted its popular ballet runner back in 2019. Emily Ratajkowski wore a controversial pair of Foundry Mews ballet sneakers in 2024. You can see the appeal. It’s a comfortable, sporty shoe that doesn’t sacrifice the delicate silhouette of a ballet flat, and gets bonus style points for creativity. Jennifer Lawrence’s love for her Wales Bonner Mary-Jane sneakers is well-documented. In April, Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor, who is rarely seen in sneakers, attended Louis Vuitton’s launch of the LV Sneakerina. Dua Lipa likes the Puma Speedcat.

Okay, fine, the ballet sneaker trend probably didn’t need an assist from Bella Hadid to make it an official It Shoe for 2025. But it definitely doesn’t hurt.
