Tigers Roster Shake-Up? Detroit Predicted To Cut Ties With Young Infielder

The Detroit Tigers have a lot of talent on their roster, and they could look to add to it in the offseason. The free agency pool is set to be full of talent while the Tigers also have a handful of top prospects who will likely be ready for next season.

With that in mind, there’s a good chance the Tigers run into a bit of a roster crunch in the offseason. They may be forced to part ways with some big-league players in order to make room for additional talent.

Colin Keane of Motor City Bengals recently suggested the Tigers would cut ties with young infielder Ryan Kreidler after holding onto him at the trade deadline.

“If the Tigers don’t have reason to keep Sweeney and Jung around, they certainly don’t have room for Ryan Kreidler,” Keane wrote. “His defensive versatility is useful and may attract other clubs as a low-cost option, but his career .384 OPS in 188 at-bats leaves a ton to be desired.

“Kreidler is relatively young at 27 years old, but again, Detroit simply has too many young infielders surging up the prospect rankings to ignore. Moving on from Kreidler seems like an obvious outcome for the Tigers this offseason, either via trade or DFA.”

Kreidler’s time in Detroit is seemingly coming to a close. He doesn’t provide the team with much and considering the Tigers are expected to be in on third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency, it seems like Kreidler will be done.

Pair that with the potential of Jace Jung and other top prospects landing on the roster and it seems like this season is Kreidler’s last with the Tigers.
