HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – August is National Black Business Month and Bold Market is shining a light on the impact of black-owned businesses in north Alabama.

The month is also about raising awareness of the real challenges that black entrepreneurs still face in today’s economy.

“It’s about trying to instill positive values in the community by example,” said Christopher Robinson of Equally Yoked.

Bold Market is set to celebrate black-owned businesses through culture and connections. The showcase features black-owned services and products from fashion, health and wellness and arts and design.

“A lot of people may not know this, but it’s very difficult for black businesses to make it through that first two to three years of business,” said Kanique Mighty-Nugent, the founder of the Bold Market. “Because they don’t get funding like other businesses.”

Bold Huntsville, which started in January 2025, stands for Black Owned Leadership Development. Nugent said she wanted to create the event as a way to bring black business owners together and as a way to patronize those businesses.

“We’re making sure that each business gets the love and support from the community that they need so that they can succeed,” Nugent said.

Conrad Doaty is the owner of Doaty Mobile Services. Doaty told News 19 that the event is a great way to showcase his handmade custom Picture Worthy Designs and encourages the community to support the contributions of black-owned businesses.

“We can do things online and make our presence felt that way, but I feel like bringing us all together and really putting an emphasis on the black owners is very good for business and good for the community as well,” Doaty said.
