The New York Yankees are quickly descending in the American League standings and nobody, not even manager Aaron Boone, has the answers.

Despite these struggles, Boone has echoed his confidence in the team as well as the positivity that they would soon break out of this slump.

Following Sunday’s loss to the Houston Astros, Boone again echoed this sentiment.

“The game is littered with dead and buried teams. We’re in playoff position right now. We’ve been through two bad months where we haven’t performed at a level we need to,” Boone said, per The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. “Go back the year before, the year before, you can pick out a number of teams that are sitting in a worse position than we are right now that go on a run. We have the people to do that, no doubt in my mind. It’s just sitting here as talk right now. We haven’t been good enough the last two months.

“This is different than ’23 where I didn’t think we were necessarily capable of that run that we needed to really get hot. We were out of it at that point. This is different. We’re in a position right now where we’re in control of things. We’re in a playoff spot, technically. I believe we have the people to get it done. We got to play consistent baseball, period.”

While Boone makes a solid point, he’s still a bit off.

This Yankees team isn’t supposed to squeak into the postseason and get bounced in the first round. That’s not a win for this roster and this franchise.

This team is supposed to dominate behind Aaron Judge. The AL East is supposed to be theirs, and right now, the Yankees are barely in the postseason.

To make matters worse, it’s not like the Yankees are barely in the postseason after scratching and clawing their way into the race. They’re quickly sliding down the standings. If Boone can’t stop this tailspin, the team could fall out of contention very quickly.
