NY Giants Coach Shares True Feelings on Jaxson Dart’s Debut

We’ve only seen one New York Giants game. It won’t count towards the team’s 2025-26 regular-season win-loss total, but at least it was encouraging and drew smiles. Big Blue walked into Highmark Stadium and walked out the winners of a 34-25 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

A trio of veteran G-Men (Russel Wilson, Tommy DeVito, and Jameis Winston) combined for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 23/32 passing, but their rookie signal-caller is one of the more talked about discussions as New York puts a bow on the first preseason affair and begin looking forward to their second test vs. the crosstown NY Jets.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart, the future

Jaxson Dart’s Giants debut didn’t claim the type of headlines that Shedeur Sanders earned, but it was impressive nonetheless. He completed 12 of 19 passes. He racked up 154 yards and tossed a TD en route to a 106 rating.

Dart also collected a team-leading 24 yards on three carries, showcasing his dual-threat ability. The plan is well-known. Russell Wilson is this team’s starter, but they may have something in this Dart fellow.

Wide Receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, the wild card

Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton sit atop the Giants depth chart at wide receiver. They may have found something in the form of wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey though.

The former undrafted free agent (2019) will need to leapfrog a couple of guys to make this roster, but he did himself a solid vs. Buffalo. There’s a growing chemistry developing between him and Jaxson Dart, and that was again proven with him being on the receiving end of Dart’s touchdown pass.

Mike Kafka, assistant head coach and offensive coordinator

Big Blue’s fans have waited to say and hear this for a while, but the G-men may have an offensive worth watching. Kafka added the ‘assistant head coach’ title to his resume last season. It’s one game. It doesn’t count, but things certainly have gotten interesting.

Offensive tackle James Hudson, the man being talked about for all of the wrong reasons

The Giants have certainly invested heavily into their offensive line, but they have yet to see a return on that investment. This sad story continues with James Hudson. He was brought in with hopes that he’d adopt a swing tackle role. We’re off to a very bad start here.

Hudson signed a two-year, $12 million deal during the offseason. He comes with both attitude and baggage. He’ll make this roster, but seeing him assessed with a false start and holding call has led to conversations about an ugly start to his Giants tenure that he didn’t need.

The Giants’ 100th season didn’t go as planned, but even though there are huge hills to climb, there seems to be reason to look forward to the 101st. They’ll need to conquer the reigning champs in Philly, but while they’re attempting to do so, there won’t be any shortages of talking points.
