An Amazon customer has shocked the internet after revealing the “secure location” where her online order was left.

Reddit user u/jitterqueen, from Germany, shared a post on July 31 with a screen grab of the unexpected delivery photo she received when her order arrived. It certainly wasn’t on her doorstep or even with a neighbor, but rather, in the trash.

The Reddit poster told Newsweek that she “was flabbergasted” at where the delivery driver left her parcel, which was worth around €50 (around $57).

“Not just at where they put it, but that they took a picture of it and proudly uploaded it,” she said.

There was also a parcel delivered for her partner at the same time, who received the same notification and delivery photo.

Newsweek has contacted Amazon via email for comment.

Statista estimates that Amazon delivered approximately 5.86 billion packages in the U.S. throughout 2023. While many of its deliveries arrive without concern, there are issues that can arise. Amazon encourages its customers to contact them directly whenever they have an issue they’d like to resolve.

To make matters worse for u/jitterqueen, the trash was being collected that same day. By the time she saw where her items were, she wasn’t even certain if she’d be home in time to retrieve them before they were gone entirely.

“I didn’t get home early enough, but my neighbor managed to see it when he took out his trash and fished it out for us,” she said.

After sharing her delivery photo on Reddit, the post has generated plenty of attention online, leading to more than 25,000 votes and over 500 comments so far. The poster told Newsweek that she had no idea it would “blow up” and capture so much interest on Reddit.

She has contacted Amazon about the delivery photo but, at the time of writing, says she hasn’t heard back yet.

“I’ve had them not ring the doorbell and just drive off, but never had anything chucked into the trashcan before,” u/jitterqueen continued.

In the days since the Reddit post went viral, hundreds of internet users took to the comments section to share their shock over the delivery photo, while others shared their own similar experiences.

Among the 500 comments, one person replied: “right on top of the lettuce is diabolical.”

Another Reddit user wrote: “I can’t even comprehend this. What was going through their mind?”

While one comment reads: “At least no one is gonna steal it from there.”
