President Donald Trump has nominated Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the State Department, for a position in the United Nations, he wrote in a post on Truth Social Saturday afternoon.
The position Bruce would move to is deputy representative of the United States to the United Nations, with a rank of ambassador, Trump added in his post.
Why It Matters
Bruce is another official moving out of the administration and heading towards the international arena following in the footsteps of IRS Commissioner Billy Long (nominated this week to be the ambassador to Iceland) and former national security adviser Mike Waltz, who was nominated to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations after the Signal group text scandal.
Bruce previously hosted Get Tammy Bruce on Fox Nation and worked as a contributor for Fox News. She was one of several Fox presenters appointed to roles in Trump’s second administration.
What To Know
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump wrote on Truth Social where he has announced all of his nominations.
The president added: “Since the beginning of my Second Term, Tammy has been serving with distinction as Spokesperson of the State Department, where she did a fantastic job. Tammy Bruce will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations. Congratulations Tammy!”
Bruce recently came under fire for her comments made during an appearance on Israeli TVl i24 News, which suggested the U.S. is “next to Israel” in terms of being the best country in the world.
The comments, made in May, did not draw notice for over a month, but surfaced online in late June and drew anger from “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) critics who viewed her comments as contradictory to Trump’s “America First” agenda and messaging.
Bruce defended herself, telling Newsweek at the time: “My work obviously speaks for itself, which is a reflection of my love for the United States, as I said in that interview, the greatest country on Earth. The assertion by certain anonymous users online is a typically out-of-context and absurd effort to create fake news for clicks and to smear.”
What Happens Next?
Bruce now joins the incredible backlog of nominees the Trump administration is trying to push through the Senate, with dozens still waiting for confirmation which Democrats pushed to delay in an effort to force concessions out of the administration.
The Senate took its annual August recess, even further delaying the confirmations as Republicans consider passing rule changes to circumvent Democrat filibuster tactics.
This is a breaking news story. Updates to come.
