A Southern California man is recovering after he was pulled out of a burning car by good Samaritans after a crash on the 105 Freeway.
Stefan “The Foosh” Cabezas works as a technical director for “The Conway Show” and “Later with Mo’Kelly” on KFI AM 640 radio.
On Aug. 7, when Cabezas didn’t show up for work, his colleagues began to worry. They tried calling him, but the calls went unanswered.
“We went three hours yesterday, panicking and trying to figure out where he was,” his colleague, Tim Conway, Jr., told KTLA’s Rick Chambers.
Conway said Cabezas was attempting to change lanes when he was cut off by another driver. The sudden maneuver sent his car crashing into a guardrail before it flipped over and eventually caught on fire.
Cabezas’ mother said her son’s arm was outside the car window when the vehicle rolled over. As he remained trapped in the burning car, three good Samaritans quickly pulled over and rushed to extricate him.
They successfully pulled him out of the burning car and a fourth person helped place a tourniquet on his mangled arm.
Police said that without the quick actions of those bystanders, Cabezas would not have survived. He was rushed to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for surgery.
With no access to updates, his colleagues had feared for the worst. “I thought he was gone,” Conway said. “I had the worst feeling in the world.”
His family and friends were beyond relieved when they learned he had survived the crash. He underwent a second surgery on Aug. 8 and remains on a ventilator in the ICU. There are several more surgeries planned in the future.
Now, his loved ones are hoping to identify the good Samaritans who rescued Cabezas that day so they can properly thank them for their heroism.
Outside of his work with KFI Radio, Cabezas also works as an Uber driver to make ends meet. His family said they’re concerned as he will be unable to work for some time while he recovers.
A GoFundMe page to help Cabezas with medical expenses can be found here. Anyone who recognizes the good Samaritans can send a message to KFI Radio on their social media pages or by calling 800-520-1534.
