This weekend, the New York Giants are going to roll out their rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart for their first matchup of the 2025 NFL Preseason against the Buffalo Bills.
The first-round pick will get an opportunity to play in front of Josh Allen, a quarterback he has admittedly looked up to.
Following Thursday’s practice session, Dart fielded a question about his relationship with the Buffalo Bills’ star quarterback. The rookie revealed that he had past communication with Allen.
“I talked to Josh like a few days after I got drafted,” Dart told reporters.
“He’s been somebody that I really looked up to since coming here. Just watching a ton of his tape and how he was able to operate in Coach [Daboll]’s system and whatnot. It’s going to be kind of a surreal feeling to be on the same field with him.”

After the Giants selected Abdul Carter with their original first-round pick, they dipped back into the first round with a trade to acquire the 25th pick. That selection sent Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart to the Big Blue.
Dart’s college career wrapped up with a 28-13 record across 41 starts. He left the NCAA with 11,970 yards, 81 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. On the ground, he rushed 393 times for 1,541 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Joining the Giants under Brian Daboll, Dart gets an opportunity to work closely with somebody who spent time with Allen during his early NFL years. It’s a great opportunity for Dart, who is expected to spend his rookie season watching his veteran teammate, Russell Wilson, run the offense rather than getting the keys right away.
In due time, Dart is expected to take over as the Giants’ franchise quarterback. For now, he’s focusing on his developmental side heading into his first set of preseason action free of nerves.
“Football is football. Obviously, you’re taking the next step, so it’s a little bit more advanced and just little details and whatnot, schematics. At the end of the day, it’s the same game you’re playing when you were a kid,” Dart said, regarding his preseason mentality.
“So, you just enjoy that, compete, don’t leave any regrets out there on the field, and don’t ever take this moment lightly, and there’s no light that’s too bright to play in.”
The Giants and the Bills will face off at 1 PM ET on Saturday.
