A 44-year-old woman was fatally mowed down by a reckless driver who struck her while turning into a Bronx driveaway before zooming off Wednesday night, police said.
The woman, whose identity was withheld pending her family’s notification, was killed after the SUV driver slammed into her at West 174th Street and Macombs Road in Morris Heights around 11:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.
The careless driver failed to stop while turning into a driveway on West 174th Street, cops said.
The motorist struck the victim and kept driving, speeding down the long driveway into a back parking lot, according to sources.
The woman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, roughly two miles away from the crash site, where she was pronounced dead.
Police are still searching for the runaway driver. No arrests have been made, the NYPD said.
Just last month, two separate hit-and-runs in the Bronx and Brooklyn killed two pedestrians and injured three others.
On July 20, a driver struck three women on a Bronx sidewalk shortly after picking a wild, pre-dawn fight with another group. All three women survived.
In early July, a rogue BMW driver sent two men flying while they were crossing a Brooklyn street during an ill-fated getaway attempt. The impact propelled one of the victims into a distant lamp post and killed both men.
The 23-year-old driver from Staten Island, who had no prior arrests, was cuffed after authorities tracked him down to his home.
Cops nabbed another hit-and-run driver last month for a 2023 fatal crash.
