Selena Gomez is dressing like my grandma did in the ’60s, and I mean that as the highest compliment.
On Tuesday, the 33-year-old stepped out alongside her fiancé, Benny Blanco, in a pair of denim capri pants which she paired with a black and white twinset cardigan and cami combo. The slim silhouette is very much giving Jackie O. (or Alma R., my grandma (shoutout)), in the summer of ‘65. The slicked back bun, a go-to Gomez style, and pointed-toe Jil Sander kitten heels bring the look into the present, as does the starlet’s iPhone.
Blanco, on the other hand, was looking completely of our time in a destroyed tee, patchwork jeans, Birkenstock clogs, and a white apron with Rare—the name of Gomez’s cosmetics company—embroidered across the top. Apparently, the couple attended a cooking class at Eataly in Century City, which would explain the red-orange stain on Blanco’s apron. Watch out, Jeremy Allen White!
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco fell in love over their shared love of food (Gomez hosted a cooking show, Selena + Chef, on HBO; Blanco authored the cookbook Open Wide: A Cookbook For Friends), so it only makes sense that they would continue to incorporate it into their relationship. We wouldn’t put it past the couple to be trying out a few new recipes for their impending nuptials.
Based on the context clues, I imagine that something involving red sauce, and maybe olive oil, was on the menu for their cooking class date night. How fitting, then, that Gomez’s look was very dolce vita. Though we often associate capri pants with the early 2000s, we can’t forget the OG era, the 1950s, when Americans were first introduced to the calf-length pants named for the Italian island of Capri. Whether it was intentional or not, Gomez completely nailed the theme here. Brava.
