Summary

  • Nintendo has raised prices for the Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite
  • The price increases, attributed to “market conditions,” are linked to tariffs on Vietnamese imports
  • The original Switch now costs $399.99 USD, the Switch OLED $399.99 USD, and the Switch Lite $229.99 USD

Nintendo has raised the prices of its first-generation Switch, the Switch OLED and the Switch Lite due to “market conditions.”

The Switch saw a $100 USD increase, going from its original price point of $299.99 USD to $399.99 USD. Meanwhile, the Switch OLED went from $349.99 USD to $399.99 USD and the Switch Lite from $199.99 USD to $229.99 USD.

“Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch™ family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025,” Nintendo wrote, but did not specify further. The Verge adds that the increase was announced following President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Vietnam imports, where Nintendo handles a majority of its production.

In addition to increased prices of the first-gen Switch, Nintendo added that more of its products will “also see adjustments.” This covers select accessories for the Switch 2, amiibo and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo.

While prices for the Nintendo Switch Online membership, Switch 2 and its physical and digital games remain the same for now, Nintendo warned that changes “may be necessary in the future.”

Nintendo is the latest video game giant to increase prices. In late July, Microsoft was forced to walk back its original May 2025 announcement of raising the prices of its upcoming first-party Xbox titles to $80 USD.
