John Wayne Airport in Orange County has added a special lane to make travel easier for families.

Santa Ana’s John Wayne Airport has rolled out a dedicated screening line for families as part of the TSA’s “Families on the Fly” campaign.

“When families arrive at John Wayne Airport, they will find a specially designated lane for them at the centrally located Checkpoint B,” Jason Pantages, TSA federal security director for John Wayne Airport, told the Orange County Register. “With Southern California being one of the top tourist destinations in the U.S. for vacationing families, I am excited that we can now expedite their screening process and enhance their overall airport experience.”

The dedicated line officially launched on July 21 and is the only one of its kind in Southern California. Other “Families on the Fly” lanes are operating at Orlando International (MCO) and Charlotte-Douglas International (CLT), with expansion to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu planned soon, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

“Families on the Fly” benefits for families include:

  • Dedicated family lanes at select airports nationwide
  • Discounted TSA PreCheck® fees for families coming soon
  • Dedicated TSA PreCheck lanes for service members and their families

KTLA’s Carlos Herrera was at John Wayne Airport on Tuesday speaking with families as they tried out the new lane.

“Yes, it’s been really nice. Very short line,” said one traveler from Portland. “So hopefully, they’re next.”

The airport also debuted a brand-new lactation pod in Terminal C, allowing quick access to mothers getting off flights. A similar pod is located in Terminal B.

“John Wayne Airport is definitely making things a little more family-friendly,” Carlos said.
