Every once in a while, two viral cultural phenomena come together in unexpected ways. Such is the case of The Summer I Turned Pretty and Roller Rabbit, the clothing brand that has become one of the hottest commodities on TikTok.
Fans of Amazon Prime’s teen soap opera about a girl in a love triangle with two brothers immediately clocked and freaked out over the crossover moment in episode four of the series, which featured a flashback of a young Belly (Lola Tung) wearing a pair of Roller Rabbit PJs.
Instantly, some were suspicious.
“The stylists working on TSITP are killing it, don’t get me wrong, but they lost me with Belly wearing Roller Rabbit 15 years ago,” wrote one person on TikTok.
If you haven’t been yet inducted into the Roller Rabbit squad (colony?), a brief introduction: The brand has become an absolute obsession on social media in the past few years, especially among tween and teen girls. It’s perhaps best known for pajama sets in bold and colorful prints, with collabs with other Insta-girl favorite brands like Love Shack Fancy selling out immediately.
So when baby Belly rolled up in one of the brand’s most well-known prints (monkey in blue, retails for $78 if you’re curious), some felt the show’s producers were unnecessarily bringing a 2025 pop-culture element into a scene that took place circa 2010.
Others were like, how bougie is this family really? (Or in actuality, how bougie is Susannah, Belly’s pseudo aunt, who all of TikTok agrees likely bought her the set?)
“Not baby Belly having Roller Rabbit PJs and I still don’t,” wrote one person.
For those who may think Belly having Roller Rabbits as a child during the Obama administration is non-canonical, the brand points out to Glamour that they’ve actually been around since 2003, meaning Belly could have just been an early convert to the fad.
And of course, they are thrilled to see the The Summer I Turned Pretty x Roller Rabbit crossover.
“The scene was set roughly 15 years ago, and we will still be bringing people together over the joys of print and color 15+ years from now,” says Carolyn Phillips, Roller Rabbit’s Chief Marketing Officer.
The brand didn’t weigh in on one of TikTok’s other biggest questions—if Roller Rabbit is team Jeremiah or Team Conrad—but did say that their PJs are for “no matter what stage of life you’re in.” So, yes, I guess that means both as a child and when you’re making an extremely ill-advised decision to get married during college and forgo a semester abroad in Paris.
In fact, Belly’s choices as an adult are so cringe, that some moms are reevaluating everything.
“Folding my daughter’s Roller Rabbit PJs wondering and stressing if they contributed to Belly’s terrible decision making skills,” wrote one person.
