PHOENIX – Retirement can feel far away for most Americans, but having an estate plan and improving financial literacy can help that far away dream become reality.

Most people think retirement planning is just about collecting Social Security and maybe opening a 401(k) or IRA.

Estate planning goes further than that, protecting generational wealth and making sure your family is in good hands in case something were to happen.

“Seventy percent of Americans have zero estate plan,” said Matt Dages, president and founder of Bright Wealth Management.

He said most people over 50 should get a second opinion about their retirement plans.

Bright Wealth Management has the tools to help people understand risk-adjusted returns and risk mitigation.

“Risk mitigation is the name of the game,” Dages says.

Creating an estate plan

Having a comprehensive estate plan and having a legacy to pass down is more than just having a will, trust, 401(k) or IRA.

Planning for taxes, investment management and analyzing the overall needs of your family are all elements to consider when you’re putting together a full estate plan.

“Unfortunately, wills can be contested,” Dages said. “You can also end up in probate court, and you can tear apart families.”

Bright Wealth Management provides comprehensive services — not just wills, trusts and retirement account advice.

Accessing tools to create a proper estate plan

The company has tools like its Bright Legacy Quiz, a free assessment that provides individuals with a personalized snapshot of their estate planning readiness.

They also provide a free written financial plan and tax plan for every first-time customer.

“We’ll look at some of the fees that you’re paying. We’ll look at some of the opportunities you can fix,” Dages said.

Utilizing tools like this allows individuals to prepare for what is ahead and allows them to reap the benefits of today.

The Bright Wealth Management Show with Matt Dages airs Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on KTAR News 92.3 FM.
