When rushing out of the house with your mind running in a million different directions, chances are you might forget your keys, leading to the headache of dealing with a lockout. That is, unless you have a dog.
Daniel Olsen, who is known on TikTok as @djolsen27, shared in a video posted on June 26 how he returned home with no way to get inside after accidentally locking himself out. He went around the house, checking every window and the back slider, hopeful someone would have been left unlocked. Unfortunately, no luck.
However, before calling for assistance, he decided to see if Zaya, his Australian shepherd, could help out. Zaya, stood at the back door, wiggling and barking with excitement to see her owner return home. Her paws butted up against the pole that slid behind the door to keep it from being opened.
Olsen saw it as an opportunity to get Zaya to move the pole with her paws, which would unlock the slider door. In the TikTok video, he and another person kept pointing to the pole, encouraging the pup to tap it away from the door.
As soon as she completed the task, everyone jumped up and screamed. They couldn’t believe Zaya managed to get them back inside the house. She came rushing out to greet them as soon as they opened the door.
In the midst of their screaming, everyone smothered her with love and praise, telling Zaya how she is a “good girl” as she truly saved the day.
This incident quickly became one of the owner’s favorite memories with his dog, he wrote in the video’s caption. But he joked in the comments section that he needs to be careful that she doesn’t learn to open the door itself since she already knows how to open a doorknob.

TikTok Users React
Thrilled and impressed, TikTok users flooded the video with demands for Zaya to be fairly compensated for her work. The clip has reached over 150,000 views and 13,000 likes as of Monday afternoon.
“You take that baby for a pup cup right now!” one user wrote, to which Olsen replied and said she had plenty afterwards.
Another user posted: “Awwwwwww yay!!! You can tell she was trying to figure out what she needed to do the whole time.”
And a third user commented: “Lowkey teaching her that could help you save her in an emergency (fire, flood, carbon monoxide leaks, etc.)”
