The McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris had looked unbeatable all weekend, going one-two in all three practice sessions and the first two rounds of qualifying before Leclerc’s stunning 1:15.372 lap knocked Piastri off the pole and relegated Norris back to the second row.
George Russell will start fourth, followed by what might be the biggest surprise of the weekend, even more so than Leclerc’s pole time. Aston Martin cars have struggled all season to find speed, but Fernando Alonso qualified fifth while teammate Lance Stroll will start sixth.
Gabriel Bortoleto, Max Verstappen, Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar round out the top 10 starting spots, with Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli both failing to make the final round of qualifying despite their teammates qualifying first and fourth, respectively.
Piastri and Norris are looking to finish one-two for the fourth race in a row as the McLaren teammates have dominated this season. Can Leclerc find a way to turn his pole position into a shocking win, or will one of the McLarens find his way to the top of the podium?
