Released Yankees Hurler Has One-Word Closing Remark For New York

It sure was an unceremonious ending for Marcus Stroman with the New York Yankees.

With two months to go on his two-year, $37 million contract, Stroman was released by the Yankees on Friday. The Yankees will eat the final $6 million on the deal, and the righty will have the ability to sign with any team of his choice for the stretch run.

Stroman was brought to New York to be the steady No. 3 starter he was for two years on the Chicago Cubs. But he never developed any consistency, compiling a 4.69 ERA in 39 outings as a Yankee.

Being dumped by a team with playoff hopes in the middle of the season is never fun, though, and Stroman didn’t have much in the way of sentiment for a goodbye to the Bronx Bombers.

On Friday, as the Yankees were battling the Miami Marlins in an eventual 13-12 loss, Stroman posted an Instagram story of the inside of a private plane, with the one-word caption, “Adios.”

It was a brief parting message, and one appropriate for the situation.

Though Stroman never got off the ground in New York, he’s had an excellent career to this point, posting a 3.79 ERA over 270 total appearances and making two All-Star Games, one with the Toronto Blue Jays and one with the Cubs.

Stroman is only 34, but his stuff took a big step back in the first half of this season, so he’ll have to prove it was just a blip on the radar to keep his career going for a few more years to come.
