Jenna Ortega is taking a different approach to promoting Wednesday season two.

It’s been well over two years since the hit Netflix series dropped in November 2022, and a lot has changed for its leading lady—especially her approach to red-carpet style. For season one, the show’s titular star leaned hard into the gothic aesthetic her character represents, hitting the premiere red carpet in a lacy black Versace gown and veil look, which she topped off with grunge undereye shadow and chrome black polish on her pointed almond nails.

With the exception of a few blood-red nail moments, Ortega largely stuck with dark nail polish, whether or not she was going full-on gothic schoolgirl during Wednesday’s first press run.

So it came as no surprise when Ortega rocked a deep, nearly black burgundy manicure while dipping her toes back into Wednesday promo in May 2025, though we began to see her shift away from on-the-nose method dressing.

But as we all learned in our high school English classes, it’s time to start breaking the rules once you’ve truly mastered them—which is exactly what Ortega is doing with her sartorial approach to her Wednesday season two press run. After all, what’s more rebellious than nailing gothic dressing without a hint of black?

All it takes—aside from a creative stylist like Enrique Melendez—is a bold approach to beauty. And while we were initially distracted by Ortega’s bleached blonde brows at the Wednesday season two premiere, it’s worth noting that she’s technically been following this summer’s most demure nail trend for her most recent photo ops, trading black nail polish for nude.

On July 31 she wore a plunging ruffled brown Vivienne Westwood dress and sheer nude corset, which she accessorized with an oversized cross and a cinching leather belt. By opting for a pointed almond shape with her dark feminine makeup and brows, the bare nail trend doesn’t feel so squeaky clean. Consider these goth princess nails.
