The New York Liberty (17-9) continues to chase the top spot in the WNBA as they travel to Mohegan Sun Arena to face the Connecticut Sun (4-21), who look to reverse their fortunes and get back in the win column.

After a rousing 31-point victory over the Golden State Valkyries, the Sun came back to Earth in their last outing, a 101-85 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Storm. Bria Hartley was the lone starter with a positive on-court rating, at plus-1, as she scored 17 points to go with four assists. Jacy Sheldon (11) and Olivis Nelson-Ododa (10) chipped in off the bench, in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score would dictate.
It wasn’t long ago that the Liberty were on the heels of the Minnesota Lynx for the best record in the WNBA, but a three-game losing streak has sent them five games back. They had a chance to close the gap with a matchup against the Lynx in their last game, but fell 100-93. Sabrina Ionescu had her usual fantastic game, scoring 31 points with five rebounds and four assists, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.
The Liberty ran roughshod over the Sun in their first meeting, a 100-52 drubbing. They’ll face each other two more times this season.
