Argentina cruised through the group stage of the 2025 Copa América Femenina before hitting a roadblock in the semifinals. The team opened the tournament with a tight 1-0 win over Uruguay, thanks to a 76th-minute goal from Wendy Carballo, a result they’ll hope to replicate today.
Argentina followed that with a dramatic 2-1 win over Chile, with Daiana Falfan scoring early and Aldana Cometti netting the game-winner in the 90th minute. Against Peru, Yamila Rodríguez played the hero, scoring in the 88th minute to seal another narrow 1-0 victory. Argentina closed out the group stage with a 2-0 win over host nation Ecuador, powered by goals from Kishi Denise Núñez and Florencia Bonsegundo.
Despite their momentum, Argentina fell short in the semifinal, setting up a rematch with Uruguay and a chance to end their campaign on a high note.
Uruguay, meanwhile, drew 2-2 against Ecuador and fell to Argentina in the group stage before then getting trounced 5-1 by Brazil in the semi-final. Adding insult to injury, Yamila Mariana Dornelles Alvez got a red card in the defeat, rendering her suspended for the third-place game against Argentina.
