And Just Like That… season three is suddenly the final chapter of the Sex and the City reboot.
On August 1, showrunner Michael Patrick King announced the final two episodes of season three will act as a two-part series finale. “And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end,” King wrote in a statement. “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”
According to King, this was a mutual decision he made with Sarah Jessica Parker and the rest of the And Just Like That creative team. “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12,” he wrote. “SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

When do the final episodes drop?
The third season kicked off on May 29. The original plan was to run for 12 episodes, each premiering on a Thursday, from May 29 until August 14.
We now know episode 11 and 12 will serve as a two-part finale—and it all starts with a Thanksgiving episode! Episode 11 will air on HBO on August 7, while the actual finale airs on August 14.
How did the OG cast responded to the news?
Sarah Jessica Parker posted an ode to Carrie Bradshaw on her Instagram page, which can be read in full here. There was something very final about the post, which even included a nod to Samantha Jones (portrayed by Kim Cattrall).
“Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections,” Parker wrote after a poem dedicated to her own character.
Parker continued, “Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”
Parker then confirmed the decision to end the series was made between her and King. “MPK and I together recognized, as we have in the past, this chapter complete,” she wrote. “AJLT was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget.”
For her part, Cythia Nixon reposted King’s statement to her Instagram story as well as Parker’s Instagram reel, writing, “Thank you @sarahjessicaparker (& our gorgeous cast & crew!) for ther quarter century of memories and friendships. Meanwhile, Kristin Davis said she’s “profoundly sad” in her own Instagram Story.
What’s going on (with the plot)?
While much of the season revolved around Carrie Bradshaw’s doomed relationship with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), that came to an official end in episode nine. Of course, there’s still plenty of drama left to unfold. For one, episode 10 included the revelation that Miranda’s son Brady (Niall Cunningham) is having a baby with a girl named Mia, played by Ben Stiller’s daughter Ella Stiller.
The problem is that Mia doesn’t want Brady involved in the baby’s life, which doesn’t really work for Miranda. In episode 11, we’ll see her subject her guests to all this baby mamma drama at Thanksgiving dinner.
Meanwhile, it seems Carrie’s editor is unhappy with the end of her book, which she describes as a “romantic tragedy.” Who wants to bet the final two episodes of the series help Carrie find a more positive ending for her novel? You can check out the trailer here:
