Emma Stone Proves It’s Easy to Make Sports Merch Look Chic

Emma Stone just made me want to buy a San Diego Padres jersey—and I don’t even watch baseball.

Listen, we all know Taylor Swift can wear the shit out of a vintage Kansas City Chiefs T-shirt and Kristin Juszczyk helped revolutionize the way WAGs tackle game day dressing in 2024, but Emma Stone just proved it’s still possible to make the stuff from the stadium merch store look just as chic in photos.

On July 30, Padres super fan Emma Stone attended yet another baseball game, this time taking to the field after her team’s 5-0 victory against the New York Mets. Of course, it was much too warm in California for the Padres varsity jacket she wore to their New York matchup against the Yankees back in May, so she made do with an oversized Padres baseball jersey…and baseball cap…and branded shopping bag filled to the brim with toys, snacks, and miscellaneous supplies.

Of course, it’s not what you wear but how you wear it—and Stone’s grown-out pixie cut did most of the heavy lifting here (well, aside from the mother of one’s shoulders, which were carrying the weight of at least three bags of stuff).

If we’ve learned from the Bob takeover of the past few years, a short hair cut is an accessory in and of itself, adding a touch of intention to even the most basic ensemble. In this case, Stone looked effortlessly cool with wisps of hair flying out from underneath her baseball cap without blocking her favored gold hoop earrings.

And if every woman in their thirties—or any age, really—should have a pair of sturdy gold hoops, they should also own a crisp white T-shirt like the one Stone layered underneath her Padres jersey. At the end of the day, Emma Stone relied on all of the wardrobe classics to turn boring old sports merch into a sartorial home run. What, did you really think I’d get through this post with out at least one baseball pun? Impossible.
