Tiger Woods‘ son, Charlie, significantly improved his performance during the second round of the Junior PGA Championship, rocketing up more than 40 spots on the leaderboard.

The younger Woods finished the round tied for fifth and had fallen to tied for seventh as the day’s later wave finished the second round.

Playing on Purdue University’s Kamper-Cosler Course, Charlie carded nine birdies and three bogeys for a score of 6-under for the round. His 36-hole score is now 7-under, which will comfortably make the cut for the top 60 plus ties.

A day earlier, Charlie played on the Ackerman-Allen Course, carding four birdies and three bogeys (1-under). The third round will be played on this same course, the main venue for the event.

Charlie arrived at Purdue University straight from missing the cut at the US Junior Amateur. However, this season has been a strong one for him, as he earned his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) victory by winning the Team TaylorMade Junior Invitational.

According to the tournament’s rules, a second cut will be made after the third round of the Junior PGA Championship, for the top 30 players and any ties to advance to the final day. Thanks to his performance in the second round, Charlie has a good chance of making the second cut if he maintains a stable game.

The Boys Junior PGA Championship is led by the surprising Lunden Esterline, ranked 46th in the country, who showed absolute control of the Kamper-Cosler Course. The soon-to-be high school junior carded an eagle and eight birdies (no bogeys) for an extraordinary 10-under for the round. Woods trails him by seven strokes.

With this performance, Esterline took his 36-hole score to 14-under and leads by five strokes, with the second round yet to be completed.

Among the girls, superstar Asterisk Talley fired a second-round 65 to climb to first place with a 36-hole score of 10-under. Talley carded six birdies and no bogeys on Wednesday, while the day before she made five birdies and a bogey.

However, Talley isn’t alone at the top, as Zoe Cusack carded identical scores in the first two rounds and joined her at 10-under.
