Wondering what, exactly, is going on with Zac Brown, Kendra Scott, and Zac Brown’s ex-wife Kelly Yazdi? Well, gather ‘round. There’s a lot of people wondering the same thing, and there’s a lot of ground to cover.

On July 24, country music star Brown (even if you aren’t a country music fan, you’ve definitely heard his song “Chicken Fried”), announced his engagement to Scott, a jewelry designer, with a People magazine exclusive. They told the magazine, “We are so happy and grateful that we found each other.”

This then prompted an explosive response from Brown’s ex-wife, Yazdi, on Instagram, with whom he is still embroiled in a legal battle. “Everyday I wake up to some carefully crafted PR story highlighting the ‘perfect love story,’ yet I’m still being buried in legal fees and told that if I even try to tell my side of the story, that somehow I’m in the wrong,” Yazdi began her lengthy caption, which she is using as a “creative outlet,” instead of songwriting. The photos accompanying the post are mostly side-by-sides of Brown with Yazdi and then Brown with Scott, as if to highlight the similarities between the two relationships. “I’ve named this piece, ‘Rinse and Repeat,’” she writes.

Yazdi continues in her post to call on Brown to “LEAVE ME ALONE,” drop his lawsuit, reimburse her for attorneys fees, and give her back her dog.

Obviously, this didn’t come out of nowhere. Brown and Yazdi split in December of 2023, after just four months of marriage, per E! News, and it quickly became contentious. In May of 2024, Brown filed a lawsuit against Yazdi, alleging that she broke a confidentiality agreement in an Instagram post, and demanding the post be taken down, per NBC News. In response, Yazdi posted again on Instagram, saying, “I will not be silenced by him no matter how ridiculous his tactics.”

On June 4, 2024, she made an additional post on Instagram, stating, “Zac’s response to having his motion summarily denied was to issue a press release doubling-down on his defamatory attacks on me, accusing me of using the lawsuit he filed against me as an ad hoc press release, and vowing to press his meritless lawsuit forward.”

Since then, Yazdi has continued to post updates about the course of the lawsuit to Instagram, including one just a few days before the bombshell on July 29.

For what it’s worth, Yazdi doesn’t indicate that she has any ill-will toward Brown’s new fiancée. Per Parade, she wrote in an Instagram Story that dropped hours after the engagement news, “This is also not about Zac’s new fiancée. I will forever be a girls’ girl, and I wish her the best. I would just hope that it would be more important to Zac to focus on his new engagement versus trying to control his last…but here we are.”

As of right now, neither Zac Brown nor Kendra Scott has responded publicly to Yazdi’s post.
