PHOENIX — American Airlines wants to help travelers in Arizona get to the beach this holiday season.
The airline announced Tuesday that it will be adding a new flight between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in south Florida starting Dec. 18.
American Airlines will also be adding a third daily flight to Tampa International Airport and a seventh daily flight to Miami International Airport from Sky Harbor over the holidays.
All of those flights are in addition to American Airlines adding a route from Sky Harbor to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida.
The first flights for that route will also take off in December.
Why is American Airlines adding flights from Phoenix to Florida?
The airline said these flights will open 50% more seats for travelers from Arizona to Florida in December.
“These new flights reflect our commitment to design a network that provides local travelers with more service to the places they want to go,” Sophia Philis-Ortiz, the vice president of American’s Phoenix operation, said in a press release. “With our continued growth at Sky Harbor, we’re excited to add more top destinations, more service during peak travel periods and build upon a decades-long partnership with the Phoenix community to be the Valley’s main choice for air travel.”
American Airlines is Sky Harbor’s largest carrier, as it flew more than 21 million passengers into or out of the airport in 2024, according to airport statistics.
Nearly 1.9 million of those passengers traveled in December, making it American Airlines’ third-busiest month of the year.
Tickets can be purchased for the flights to Florida on the airline’s website or mobile app.
