PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Priceville Police Department said it is working to track down a group of people who robbed an ATM outside of a bank last week.
Priceville Police says the robbery happened at Traditions Bank located on AL-67 around 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 24th.
News 19 spoke with investigators on the case, who said employees of the bank were filling up the ATM when the robbers came running up.
“They were met by multiple individuals wearing all black, black masks, that pretty much bomb rushed the ladies while they were filling the machine and took the money, jumped in the vehicle and fled the scene,” Investigator Turk Jones said.
He told News 19 that this isn’t the first ATM that this group of robbers has hit.
“We do know they’ve been all over the state, for sure,” Jones said.
He said once word got out about the ATM robbery at Traditions Bank, he was quickly contacted by at least four other agencies across the state. Jones said it would appear that the robbers have a pattern.
“Hit this one, run, hit the next one, run and so on and so on,” he said.
Investigators say they are working with those other agencies and the FBI to try and identify the masked robbers, who were caught on camera. Jones said they were able to ID the license plate on the vehicle, but that lead didn’t get them very far.
“The tag on the vehicle when the robbery occurred was actually stolen out of Huntsville,” Jones said.
He also said he doesn’t think the bank robbers are from Priceville.
“We get a lot of traffic off the interstate, and we have some pretty bad people traveling through here at all times during the day,” he said. He said the easy access to I-65 may have made the bank a target.
At this time, investigators don’t believe this was an armed robbery. Jones said witnesses don’t recall seeing a weapon.
“Pretty much all they saw was masked men running toward them, so they kind of put two and two together and knew what was happening,” Jones said about the bank employees. “They dropped everything and ran for safety inside the building.”
He said he’s glad no one was hurt.
“Anytime we have this sort of incident with no injuries is excellent,” Jones told News 19.
He said bank employees should be vigilant and be sure to switch their routines frequently to avoid becoming a target.
While Priceville Police is not disclosing the exact dollar amount that was stolen, Jones said it was a “large amount.”
“Hopefully, we can identify these people and get that money recovered,” he added.
Priceville Police said it will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies to get this case solved. Anyone who might have information on the case is encouraged to give the department a call at (256)-350-4613.
Chief Jerry Holmes told News 19 that this is the first bank robbery in Priceville in “years”.
