A suspect was arrested for a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist hospitalized in Orange County.

The suspect was identified as Christian Diaz, 22, of West Covina, according to the Fullerton Police Department.

On July 22, police responded to the crash near South Harbor Boulevard and West Orangethorpe Avenue around 1:30 p.m.

Surveillance video captured the moment a 31-year-old man, was riding his bicycle when the suspect in a Dodge Challenger made a U-turn and, while driving on the wrong side of the road, crashed into him head-on, hurtling him into the air.

The suspect sped away from the scene, leaving the man lying on the road. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released. Investigators believe the maneuver was deliberate.

Police later identified Diaz as the suspect driver and on July 30, he was arrested for attempted murder. No further details were released as the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Fullerton Police Detective N. Valdes at 714-738-6754 or email [email protected].

Those wishing to provide information anonymously can call the Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS or visit their website at occrimestoppers.org.
